Boyd County Sentencing Update
On June 25, 2026, John Tooson was sentenced in Boyd Circuit Court to two life sentences after pleading guilty to the 2022 murders of sisters Selina Easter, 20, and Summer Algarakhuly, 18.
Tooson also pleaded guilty to first-degree robbery, first-degree wanton endangerment, possession of a handgun by a convicted felon, and first-degree persistent felony offender. He received a combined 40-year sentence on those additional counts, to run concurrently with the life sentences. He may be considered for parole after serving at least 25 years.
Selina and Summer were both mothers. No sentence can undo what their children, family, and loved ones lost.
